Brief History of Team Cyanosis Powerade: Team Cyanosis Powerade is a Gauteng based South African team that was formed in February 2004. All current members participate and excel in numerous outdoor/adventure sports which contributes to the success of the team in adventure racing. The goal of Team Cyanosis Powerade is to take the team to the next level in adventure racing. To obtain a podium finish in each race in South Africa and to finish in the top ten at the World Champs in New Zealand in November 2005. This requires unswerving dedication from all the members as well as many gruelling hours of training. The team is committed 100% to the sport of adventure racing. The team race clothing is sponsored by First Ascent Outdoor Apparel. The team’s health is taken care of by Foodstate Vitamins. Powerade is the team’s primary cash sponsor for 2005 and 2006. Nicholas Mulder: Age 27. Unmarried. Team navigator and captain. Multiple South African Orienteering Champion. Protea colours in Orienteering and represented SA internationally. Involved in AR since 2002. Nicholas is currently completing his Master of Science degree. Nic’s strength is obviously his navigation coupled with his practical outlook. Nic is a real problem solver.
Clinton Mackintosh: Age 28. Married. No children. Elite road cyclist for Southern Transvaal and competitive mountain biker. Involved in AR since 2003. Clinton is a director of Wireless Lan, a communications company. Clint’s strength is his ability on the bike coupled with his fearless attitude towards rope work. His ability to smile through thick and thin is a boost to the team dynamics.
Arrie de Swardt: Vice Captain and co-navigator. Age 29. Unmarried. All round competitive sportsman. Silver Comrades medallist, Duzi medallist and Ironman participant. Has been involved in endurance sport for 8 years. ARrie completed the 2005 Ironman in under 10 hours. Involved in AR since 2002. ARrie is an actuarial analyst with OUTsurance, a leading insurance company. ARrie’s all round abilities and physical strength are essential attributes. The team relies heavily on him and together with Clinton he carries the heaviest loads.
Erica Terblanche: Age 34. Unmarried. All round competitive sportswoman. Superb off road endurance runner. Winner of the Three Peaks Challenge, Cape Town and the Augrabies Desert Marathon. Involved in AR since 2001. Erica is in head office management with Nedcor, a banking/financial institution in SA. Erica is probably the leading woman in AR in South Africa in 2005. Her fearless attitude and ability to find paths when there are none is quite amazing.
The team is managed and trained by Jacqueline Brook, a fitness and wellness specialist. Age 40. Unmarried. Involved in the fitness and wellness industry for over 10 years both in SA and abroad. Involved in AR since 2001.
